Kurt Kamienski’s three goals and two assists led Connecticut past American International, 5-2, at the Olympia Ice Center in Springfield, Mass., on Friday evening.
Kamienski opened the scoring 58 seconds into the game on assists from Mike Boylan and Anders Johnson. AIC evened the score on a shot from Ron Miller less than a minute later.
Connecticut took the lead for good in the second period. Kamienski notched his second goal, a power-play tally, at the 7:03 mark. Boylan added another assist along with Ron D’Angelo. Johnson gave UConn the 3-1 lead with 19 seconds left on assists from Kamienski and Trent Landry.
Matt Owens began the third period by scoring 33 seconds in on Kamienski’s and D’Angelo’s second assists of the night. Just over two minutes later Kamienski netted the hat trick with help from Boylan and D’Angelo. The Yellow Jackets’ Trent Ulmer scored AIC’s lone tally of the period at the 7:40 mark.
UConn’s Artie Imbriano notched his first win of the season, stopping 24 shots on goal. AIC’s Frank Novello had 57 saves in net as UConn outshot AIC, 62-26.
The game marked the first win of the season for the Huskies, as they improved to 1-3-1 overall, 1-0-1 in the MAAC, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 1-4-0 overall, 0-3-0 in the conference.
