Botten’s late goal completes Oswego’s rally past Bowdoin

OSWEGO, N.Y. — Alex Botten scored his second goal of the game to break a tie with 2:20 remaining, and Oswego rallied past Bowdoin 4-3 in an NCAA tournament first-round game on Thursday.

Bowdoin scored twice in the first 6:32 of the third period to jump out to a 3-1 lead, but the Lakers rallied with goals 38 seconds apart by David Titanic and Mike Montagna.

That set the stage for Botten, who put home a pass from Titanic to push Oswego into the quarterfinals.

The Lakers (21-6-2) will play at Babson on Sunday.

Matt Zawadzki made 27 saves for Oswego, while Max Fenkell stopped 32 shots for the Polar Bears (17-9-2).

Botten put the Lakers ahead in the second period, but Bowdoin got the next three goals.

Jay Livermore tied things late in the second period, and Matt Rubinoff and Harry Matheson gave the Polar Bears a two-goal lead in the third.

The game was postponed Wednesday because of a snowstorm.
