The WCHA announced Tuesday one-game suspensions for Alaska-Anchorage sophomore forward Mason Mitchell and Alaska junior forward Austin Vieth.
The suspensions will be effective for the next games for the Seawolves and Nanooks, respectively.
Mitchell’s suspension is a result of a blindside hit at the 4:58 mark of the first overtime period of Alaska-Anchorage’s game of Saturday, Jan. 14, at Michigan Tech. No penalty was called on the ice, but upon further review, the hit was delivered in a manner that warranted the suspension.
Vieth’s suspension is a result of his game misconduct infraction for contact to the head, which occurred at the 17:18 mark of the second period in Alaska’s game on Saturday, Jan. 14, at Ferris State. Upon review, the contact occurred in a manner that warranted the suspension.
Alaska-Anchorage’s next scheduled game is Friday, Jan. 20, at Northern Michigan and Mitchell would be eligible to return for the Seawolves’ game on Saturday, Jan. 21, against the Wildcats. Alaska’s next scheduled game is Friday, Jan. 20 at Bowling Green, while Vieth would be eligible to return for the Nanooks’ Saturday, Jan. 21 contest against the Falcons.
