Ohio State rolls to Florida College Hockey Classic title by thrashing Cornell

ESTERO, Fla. — Eight Ohio State players scored as the Buckeyes routed No. 9 Cornell 8-0 on Tuesday to win the Florida College Hockey Classic championship.

The Buckeyes beat a second straight top-10 team after ousting No. 4 Boston College in the semifinals.

Christian Frey made 27 saves for Ohio State (5-11), which scored twice on the power play and once while short-handed.

Sasha Larocque and Josh Healey put the Buckeyes ahead 2-0 in the first period, and a four-goal second period put the game out of reach.

Nick Schilkey, David Gust, Tyler Lundey and Anthony Greco scored in the middle frame. John Wiitala and Matthew Weis added third-period goals.

The loss snapped an eight-game unbeaten streak for the Big Red (9-2-2). Mitch Gillam allowed four goals on 14 shots before being replaced by Hayden Stewart, who stopped 11 of 15 shots.
