Schierhorn shutout lifts Minnesota past Northeastern for first win

MINNEAPOLIS — Eric Schierhorn made 23 saves for his first collegiate shutout as No. 19 Minnesota beat Northeastern 4-0 on Friday.

The Gophers won their first game of the season after opening with three losses.

Tommy Novak, Jack Glover and Tyler Sheehy scored first-period goals for Minnesota. Hudson Fasching made it 4-0 late in the third period.

Derick Roy stopped only one of four shots for Northeastern before being replaced by Ryan Ruck, who made 21 saves.
