Delainey’s goal breaks tie, Elmira edges Wisconsin-River Falls in women’s D-III semifinal

Cassidy Delainey’s goal at 10:22 of the third period snapped a 2-2 tie and Elmira held on to top Wisconsin-River Falls 3-2 Friday night in the second women’s Division III semifinal.

The Soaring Eagles’ win sets up an Elmira-Plattsburgh final Saturday night.

Sam Greeley and Dani Sibley scored first-period goals for UWRF (25-4-1) and the Falcons led 2-0 after 20 minutes.

Ashton Hogan cut the lead to 2-1 at 19:59 of the second period before Erin Weston tied the game for Elmira (26-2-1) seven minutes into the third period.

Elmira’s Kyle Nelson stopped 21 shots for Elmira, while Angie Hall made 34 saves for River Falls.
