Boston University advanced to its second Frozen Four with a 5-3 victory over Clarkson at Walter Brown Arena. Marie-Philip Poulin and Jenelle Kohanchuk each had a goal and an assist, while Sarah Lefort notched two unassisted goals.
Poulin scored just 4:49 into the first period when she slid a shot under Erica Howe’s right pad to give the Terriers the early lead, which held up through the first.
Erin Ambrose tied it early in the second on a rebound of a Shelby Nisbet that she knocked in from the crease.
Kerrin Sperry was strong in net, and made two huge saves to keep the score tied by stopping Jamie Lee Rattray from the left circle and Brittany Styner’s rebound shot.
Poulin and Kohanchuk combined to give the Terriers the lead again when Poulin rushed up the left wing and floated a perfect pass across the crease to Kohanchuk at the right post, who taped it in at 17:09.
After two tight defensive periods, the offensives got untracked in the third, with BU scoring two goals in 26 seconds. The first came off the stick of Lefort at 9:22 mark, then Louise Warren followed with what proved to the be the game-winner on a rebound of an Isabel Menard shot.
Clarkson regrouped by calling timeout, and Christine Lambert scored just 12 seconds later. With 4:40 remaining, Shannon MacAulay scored to pull Clarkson back within one.
With Howe pulled with 1:06 to play, Lefort quickly forced a turnover and scored an empty-netter to clinch the win.
The Terriers, who matched a program record for wins in a season, next face Mercyhurst, which upset Cornell.
