CCHA hands Northern Michigan’s Thurber one-game suspension

The CCHA on Saturday suspended Northern Michigan forward Matt Thurber for one game after reviewing a check from Friday night’s game against Ohio State.

Thurber, the team’s leading scorer, will be forced to sit out Saturday’s series finale against the Buckeyes.

The league ruled that Thurber illegally hit Ohio State’s Alex Lipincott in the head 54 seconds into the Buckeyes’ 2-0 home victory. He was given a major penalty and game misconduct at the time.

“If I say what I think, I’ll get fined,” Wildcats coach Walt Kyle told USCHO after the game.

Thurber leads the Wildcats with 12 points.
