Senior Kyle Wilson scored Colgate University’s lone goal midway through the third period, and sophomore Mark Dekanich posted 24 saves as the Raiders rallied for a 1-1 tie on the road in ECACHL action against Clarkson University before 2,701 fans at Cheel Arena Saturday night.
Colgate, which snapped a three-game losing streak with the tie, owns a 15-9-6 overall record and stands in second place tie in the ECACHL with an 11-5-2 mark. The Golden Knights, who defeated Cornell 3-1 on Friday, gained three points on the weekend against the top two teams in the league to improve their record to 14-13-3 overall and to 7-9-2 in the conference.
Wilson spoiled the bid by Clarkson sophomore goaltender David Leggio for his first career shutout when he took a pass from freshman defenseman Mark Anderson and scored from the top of the crease for his team-high 22nd goal of the season to tie the contest at 8:06 of the third.
Sophomore Shawn Weller put the Knights on top in the first with a power-play marker at 11:49. With 27 seconds remaining in Clarkson’s only man-advantage opportunity of the opening stanza, Weller took a perfect pass from classmate Nick Dodge at the left side of the crease and easily tapped in his 13th goal of the season, giving the Green and Gold a power-play goal in each of the last seven games. Sophomore David Cayer also set up the goal with a pass from the end boards out to Dodge at the top of the right circle.
The Knights had several opportunities to add to their lead throughout the remainder of the game but could not capitalize on their remaining four power-play chances. Colgate was 0-of-4 with the man advantage.
Leggio also finished with 24 stops as both teams had 25 shots on goal.
