Stewart got the decisive goal at 15:08 of the second on a rebound off freshman Megan McCarthy’s shot.

“We had a good game, everyone just carried it on from yesterday and carried on till the end,” Stewart said.

The Fighting Sioux (5-17-2, 1-15-2 WCHA) had a much better effort than in Saturday’s 9-3 loss but still came up short.

“Definitely better than yesterday,” said UND coach Shantel Rivard. “I think the players were definitely going today.”

UND struck first late in the first period on a goal by freshman Randi Motsko, who buried a rebound of a shot by freshman Alyssa Johnson, for her second goal of the year and a 1-0 lead.

SCSU (10-13-1, 7-10-1) got on the board just over two minutes later on Stewart’s first of two goals in the game.

Fighting Sioux sisters Cami and Cara Wooster hooked up for UND’s second goal at 7:31 of the second when Cami made a cross-crease pass to Cara who put in a one-timer past SCSU sophomore goalie Kendell Newell for a 2-1 lead at 7:31 of the frame.

Ashley’s twin sister Kelly Stewart got the game-tying goal at 10:06 of the second on a slapshot from the blue line that went off the near post and into the net to tie the game 2-2. SCSU’s other sisters sophomore Laura and junior Tricia Fast assisted on the goal.

Newell made six saves in the third including a breakaway and two 2-on-1 chances late in the frame. She finished the game with 19 saves and improved her record to 6-5-1 on the season.

“We did kind of fall asleep and gave them a couple of opportunities, but Kendell stood her ground well,” said St. Cloud coach Jason Lesteberg. “The saves she made in the third period preserved the game for us.”

UND seniors Amber Hasbargen and Margret-Ann Hinkley combined for 30
saves with Hinkley taking the loss. The Huskies finished 1-for-4 on the power play, while UND was 1-for-6.
