Three-Goal Third Propels Dartmouth

Dartmouth got three goals in the third period and sophomore Mike Devine stopped 33 of 34 shots to down Rensselaer, 4-1. Dartmouth improves to 7-8-0 overall and 6-5-0 in the league. RPI falls to 8-9-3 and 2-2-3.

The Big Green jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 19 seconds into the contest when sophomore forward J.T. Wyman deflected a Sean Offers shot into the back of the net for a power-play goal. Wyman earned his fifth goal of the season while standing in the slot, where he tipped Offers’ right point shot past Rensselaer netminder Mathias Lange. Mike Ouellette earned the secondary helper. The Engineers tied the score with a five-on-three power-play goal when sophomore Andrew Lord took a pass from junior Oren Eizenman on an odd-man rush and snapped off a one-timer. Senior Kevin Croxton also assisted on the goal.

The second period was deadlocked with no scoring as the Engineers had eight shots on goal while Dartmouth had 13.

The third period started out evenly as well, but the Big Green broke the deadlock with 7:51 remaining. Ouellette fed a centering pass across the crease, where David Jones settled it and roofed it over Lange. Ben Lovejoy was credited with the secondary assist.

Dartmouth added their third and fourth goals for the final margin later in the period. Dan Shribman managed to deflect a puck past Lange as Jarrett Sampson and Rob Pritchard picked up assists. Lovejoy scored Dartmouth’s fourth goal as he found the puck in front of the net and poked it above a fallen Lange. Eric Przepiorka and Nick Johnson were credited with the assists.

Devine had 15 saves in the first period, eight in the second and 10 in the third to improve to 6-4-0. Lange finished with 27 saves, including seven in the first period, 13 in the second and seven in the third.

Rensselaer returns to action tomorrow night when it hosts Harvard in an ECACHL game at Houston Field House (7pm). Dartmouth travels crosstown to take on Union tomorrow night at 7pm.
