Latulippe, Walsh Shut Down Colgate

Sophomore center Jay Latulippe scored two goals and added one assist to lead Clarkson to its most explosive offensive outing of the season as the Golden Knights opened a five-game homestand with a 6-0 victory over Colgate in ECAC action before 2,764 fans Saturday night.

Senior Mike Walsh faced a season-low 13 shots in recording his second shutout of the season and 10th career whitewash. The Golden Knights improved their record to 6-10-1 overall and to 3-2-1 in the ECAC. Colgate, which dropped its fourth straight game, falls to 7-11-1 and to 2-5 in league play.

Clarkson opened a three-goal first-period effort when senior defenseman Dave Reid scored his first goal of the season, jamming in a loose puck in front while on the power play at 4:22. Latulippe tallied his first of the game at 9:12, followed by senior Kevin O’Flaherty’s fourth goal of the season at 18:06.

At 8:27 of the second, sophomore defenseman Randy Jones made it 4-0 when he connected for Clarkson’s first penalty-shot goal in three and half seasons.

Latulippe made it 5-0 with his sixth goal of the season, a power-play marker at 10:44. Sophomore Chris Blight closed out the scoring with his third goal of the season 1:25 into the final frame.

Clarkson outshot the Raiders 39-13, including a 10-2 margin in the third period. Sophomore Steve Silverthorn started in goal for Colgate and made 21 saves, while allowing four goals before leaving midway through the second period.

Junior David Cann closed out the game in goal for the Raiders and posted 12 stops. The Knights were 2-5 on the power play and killed off all eight of Colgate’s man-advantage opportunities.
