Ohio State fell to Wisconsin, 3-0, Saturday in the series finale at the Capitol Ice Arena. Following their shutout sweep of the Buckeyes, the first Ohio State has suffered this season, the Badgers improved to 19-10-2 and 15-5-1 in the WCHA.
Ohio State (15-13-4, 9-12-3 WCHA) was whistled for 10 penalties, tying the most in a single game this season. The Buckeyes served 20 penalty minutes Nov. 18 at Providence.
Wisconsin took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Kerry Weiland scored an unassisted goal from the high slot at 3:05 in the first period, and Molly Engstrom converted a point shot on the power play from Weiland and Steph Millar at 17:18.
The Buckeyes killed off three penalties in the second period and were unable to convert on three power-play opportunities of their own. Wisconsin outshot Ohio State, 9-7, in the period, however both teams had an equal number of scoring chances.
The Badgers increased their lead to three at the 13:30 mark of the third when Kendra Antony scored from Meghan Hunter and Millar. Ohio State managed only two shots on goal in the period.
Wisconsin outshot Ohio State, 24-15. April Stojak stopped 21 shots and Wisconsin netminder Jackie MacMillan saved all 15 Buckeye shots to preserve the shutout. The Buckeyes held the Badgers to just one power-play goal in 10 chances with the man advantage and were scoreless through five power-play opportunities.
Ohio State will close out the regular season next weekend with a home-and-home series against in-state rival Findlay. The Buckeyes battle the Oilers at 7 p.m. Friday at Clauss Arena and return home Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. contest.
