Danis, Brown Shut Out UConn

Sophomore Yann Danis stopped 27 shots, while earning his first career shutout in leading Brown (7-8-2) to its third consecutive victory and first shutout of the year, a 2-0 win over Connecticut (5-11-6) on Saturday evening at Brown’s Meehan Auditorium.

Riding high after Friday’s 4-1 upset over St. Cloud State, Brown wasted little time in getting on the board, looking to extend its winning streak to a season-high three games.

Sophomore Shane Mudryk, who tallied two assists in Friday’s victory, opened the scoring at 9:48 of the first period. His fourth goal of the year, which proved to be the game-winner, was scored with a slapshot taken from the top of the left faceoff circle. Classmate Brent Robinson earned an assist on the play, his sixth point in seven games, while freshman Paul Crosty tallied his first career point with an assist.

Freshman Les Hagget added an insurance goal at 11:35 of the second period, his second point in as many games. Classmates Chris Swon and Chris Davidson each earned assists on the goal. It was Swon’s third point in as many games, while Davidson earned his first career point.

The Bears had several other chances throughout the rest of the game; however, the strong goaltending of UConn’s Jason Carey kept the Huskies within striking distance.

Brown is now 4-0-0 against UConn, and remarkably has shut out the Huskies all four times, outscoring them 26-0.
