Scott Leads Williams Offense Past Amherst

Led by Victoria Scott’s two-goal, one-assist night, Williams shut out NESCAC and Little Three rival Amherst Saturday, 6-0.

With the victory, the Ephs improve to 9-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play, while the Jeffs fall to 4-10 and 3-8.

Williams’ Gigi Stender chipped in with a goal and two assists, overcoming Jeff junior goaltender Heidi Alexander, who finished with 27 saves after a 41-save performance the previous night in a shutout loss to Middlebury.

Scott broke the ice 6:22 into the opening stanza for the Ephs, blasting a slapper from the slot past Alexander. Stender added a tally moments later, intercepting a cross-ice pass in the Amherst defensive zone and firing a laser off the crossbar and into the back of the net, giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage to end the first period.

Williams blew the game wide-open with a trio of goals in the second period. After the first pair, Scott waltzed in from the right circle and shot a wrister over Alexander’s shoulder to put the Ephs ahead 5-0.

Sophomore forward Molly Wasserman added her team-leading 17th goal of the season midway through the third period to set the final score at 6-0.
