Bang-Bang Offense Sends Quinnipiac Past Army

Todd Bennett and Chris White scored in a span of 50 seconds late in the third period, lifting Quinnipiac to a 4-2 win over Army on Friday night at the Northford Ice Pavilion.

Clinging to a one-goal lead for most of the final half of the game, Army finally caved in with less than six minutes remaining.

Bennett, playing in his first game in over a month, capped off a pressure-filled series in the Black Knights’ zone that lasted nearly a minute. Brian Herbert kept the puck in along the left-wing boards and threaded a pass to Bennett, who tipped the shot past goaltender John Yaros.

Quinnipiac then went ahead for good less than a minute later. The hosts won a draw in the Army end, and White redirected a shot from the point from Matt Erhart.

When White scores a goal this season, Quinnipiac is 6-0.

Brandon Schmitt then added an empty-netter with 58 seconds remaining to seal the victory.

Quinnipiac opened the scoring at 16:01 of the first period on a power-play goal from Neil Breen. Yaros stopped the original shot from the point, but Breen hacked in the rebound from the right of the cage. Brian Herbert and Matt Erhart assisted on the goal.

Army answered with a pair of goals in a span of 1:14 midway through the second period to take a 2-1 advantage.

Dustin Healey put the Black Knights on the board at 5:42, capitalizing off a QU turnover in its own end. Then, just over a minute later, Mayfield crashed the net for a rebound and put Army ahead.

Herbert added to his team-leading assist and point totals with a two-assist night. He now has 19 assists and 26 points on the year. Breen moved within six points of 100

Yaros finished the night with 37 saves for Army in the losing cause.

Quinnipiac and Army return to action Saturday night, finishing the home-and-home series at West Point.
