Lakers Overcome Hot Start For Braves, Force Deadlock

Brian Herbert, Neil Breen and Ryan Morton scored first-period goals, but Mercyhurst rallied to force a 3-3 deadlock with Quinnipiac on Friday night at the Northford Ice Pavilion.

Five of the six goals in the game were scored in the first 8:55 of the contest. Herbert netted the first tally just 21 seconds into the contest, but Mercyhurst answered with a pair of power-play markers from Louis Goulet and Rich Hansen to take a 2-1 advantage.

The Braves jumped back in front with two goals in 27 seconds later in the period. Breen redirected a shot from Matt Erhart at 8:28 before Morton tucked in a rebound at 8:55.

Both teams had two-man advantages in the second period, but neither was able to convert. It wasn’t until Hansen scored another power-play tally at 17:30 of the second frame that the game was tied.

Quinnipiac had two breakaways in the extra session, but Mercyhurst goalie Matt Cifelli stopped both chances to preserve the tie.
