Short-Handed Goal Is All Sacred Heart Needs

A short-handed goal was all Sacred Heart needed as it skated by the Army Black Knights, 1-0.

Sacred Heart (4-3-1, 4-2-1 MAAC) opened the scoring in the first period when
junior winger Martin Paquet scored on a breakaway during an Army 5-on-3 power play. That goal turned out to be the only marker of the game.

Army freshman goalie John Yaros was marvelous in net, playing on back-to-back nights for the first time this season. Yaros made 26 saves, keeping the Black Knights close all game.

Pioneers’ goalie Kevin LaPointe recorded his first career shutout in his second college game, making 27 saves between the pipes.

The last time the Black Knights were shutout was Jan. 6, 2001 at the Milford Ice Pavilion against Sacred Heart.

Army (3-8-0, 1-6-0 MAAC) will return to action Friday when it travels to the University of Connecticut for another league contest, while the Pioneers will travel to AIC on Tuesday for a MAAC contest.
