Yellow Jackets Hold Off Stags Despite 49 Fairfield Shots

Despite being outshot by Fairfield, 49-13, the AIC Yellow Jackets shut out the Stags for a 1-0 victory Friday at the Wonderland of Ice.

AIC’s only goal came in the second period, when a Fairfield player dropped his stick at the defensive blue line, resulting in a turnover that evolved into a scrum below the Stag goal line. That eventually left John Levesque sitting alone on the back door with an open net. Trent Ulmer and Ron Miller were credited with assists.

AIC’s Frank Novello was unbeatable, stopping all 49 shots he faced.

The loss, its second 1-0 defeat at home this season, drops Fairfield to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the MAAC, while improving AIC to 2-5 and 1-4.

Fairfield will have a second crack at Novello and the Yellow Jackets tomorrow night when the Stags host AIC for another 8 p.m. start.
