Braves Hold Off Black Knights

Despite two late rallies, the visiting Quinnipiac Braves proved too much for the Army Black Knights, winning a 5-2 decision Friday night before 1,470 at Tate Rink.

Senior Josh Morino scored just as a power play was ending 2:21 into the third period to bring Army (2-3-0/0-1-0 MAAC) within 2-1 of the Braves (3-1-0/1-1-0), and classmate Joe Carpenter scored on the power play midway through the final period pulling the Black Knights within 3-2.

But Quinnipiac scored twice in the final five minutes to dash any hopes of a comeback.

Quinnipiac’s Chris White scored at 15:11 to push the Braves’ lead back to two and Ryan Olson scored on the power play with 27 seconds left in the game to ice the outcome.

Army senior Scott Hamilton stopped 21 of 26 shots in the losing effort. Quinnipiac freshman Jamie Holden stopped 14 of 16 shots. The Braves were aided by eight penalties whistled against the Black Knights, and the visitors took advantage of those opportunities, going 3-for-5 with the extra man. Army was 1-for-6 on the power play.
