Canisius Rallies to Defeat Toronto

Senior Todd Houston scored two goals to lead Canisius to a 5-2 come-from-behind victory over the University of Toronto in an exhibition game at the Buffalo State Sports Arena Saturday night.

Canisius fell behind after one period of play as Toronto’s Steve Hoar scored twice in the first 20 minutes to give the Blues a 2-0 lead. The Griffs would out of the gate quickly however, as junior Tom Wnuk scored just 1:32 into the period to cut the deficit in half.

Houston then scored his first goal at the 3:44 mark to knot the game at 2-2. And freshman Ryan Corcoran scored the eventual game-winner at the 5:43 mark, giving the Griffs a 3-2 lead after two periods.

Sophomore Rob Martin gave the Griffs a 4-2 lead at the 12:59 mark of the third period and Houston added a shorthanded, empty-net goal with 1:01 remaining to ice the victory for Canisius. Canisius senior goalie Sean Weaver turned away 27
shots in the win for the Griffs.

Canisius will open the 2001-02 regular season next weekend with a pair of non-conference game against Alabama-Huntsville. The Griffs host the Chargers Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Buffalo State Sports Arena with both games starting at 7 p.m. (ET).
