PRINCETON, N.J. — Kennedy Marchment scored the only goal of the contest midway through the third period, as St. Lawrence defeated No. 8 Princeton 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series that continues Saturday.
The Saints and Tigers traded periods of offensive dominance at times, but the Saints outshot the Tigers 46-29 overall.
The scoreless first period was not without excitement, as both teams had a potential goal evaluated by video review. First, a goal by the Saints was waved off after the officials signaled a hand pass, and later a Tigers shot on net that trickled through the crease was stopped by goaltender Grace Harrison’s paddle just before crossing the line. In both instances, the on-ice call of “no-goal” was confirmed.
Marchment’s goal at 10:12 of the final stanza was set up by Lydia Grauer and Kiersten Padalis. Grauer sent the puck to the opposite point along the blue line, and Padalis’ shot deflected off of Marchment and a defender before sliding inside the far post.
Harrison stopped all 29 shots to earn the shutout in the victory for St. Lawrence. Kimberly Newell made 45 saves for Princeton.
