Middlebury’s Michelle Labbe scored a pair of goals to earn MVP honors and lead Middlebury to a 3-0 win over Williams in the ECAC title game.
The Panthers have now won all six ECAC Division III Championships by a combined score of 28-4. Middlebury also now has a 113-game (112-0-1) unbeaten streak since the league’s inception in 1995-96, and a 77-game home winning streak.
With the win, Middlebury earns an automatic bid to the 2001 AWCHA national championship in Rochester, N.Y., next weekend.
Middlebury opened the scoring just 3:10 into the game as Angela Kapus found Kristin Reid in the slot for the goal.
After a scoreless second period, Middlebury doubled its lead with a power-play goal as Catherine Elkins’ shot from the point rebounded off the back boards to Labbe, who found the back of the net just 26 seconds into the third period.
Labbe struck again for some insurance midway through the third period when she skated through the slot and backhanded a shot into the net for a 3-0 lead.
Megan Hutchinson made 10 saves in net for her sixth shutout of the season, while Monelle Quevillon made 19 saves for the Ephs.
