Nick Rieser turned away all 21 Williams shots as second-seeded Amherst moved into the NESCAC semifinals with a 3-0 victory Saturday afternoon.
Mike Kreger and Darren Reaume scored goals in the first period for Amherst, which outshot Williams 35-21.
Any hopes Williams, the seventh seed, had of a late-game comeback disappeared when Chris Orszulak scored on a power play for Amherst with just under two minutes left to play.
It’s the first time in eight games between the schools that the final margin has been more than two goals. Amherst is ranked sixth in the most recent USCHO.com poll.
