PRINCETON, N.J. — Denna Laing and Jaimie McDonell tallied a goal and assist each to lead Princeton to a 3-2 victory over Dartmouth Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers and Big Green traded late-first-period goals less than a minute apart, as Brianne Mahoney scored for Princeton at 18:12, and Laura Stacy scored for Dartmouth at 19:01.
After a scoreless second stanza, the tandem of Laing and McDonell connected for two goals in the first five minutes of the third. McDonell scored just 30 seconds in on a feed from Laing, and then Laing netted the eventual game winner on the power play at the 5:00 mark, from Sally Butler and McDonell.
In a crazy period which saw 11 minor penalties, the Big Green battled back with a power-play goal of their own at 15:59. After Lindsey Allen was stopped on a breakaway by Kimberly Newell, the rebound found its way to Eleni Tebano, who beat Newell to cut the Tigers lead to one. But the Big Green comeback fell short, as Dartmouth was penalized twice in the final four minutes, including a major penalty and a game misconduct to Karlee Odland for hitting from behind.
The two teams finished with a combined 23 penalties, totaling 57 minutes in the game.
Newell stopped 23 of 25 shots in the victory for Princeton. Lindsay Holdcroft made 25 saves for Dartmouth.
