Wisconsin Downs Alaska-Anchoarge in OT

Wisconsin’s Matt Hussey score at 2:23 of overtime to lift the Badgers to a 3-2 come from behind WCHA victory over Alaska Anchorage at the Sullivan Arena tonight.

Wisconsin improved to 15-11-2 overall (10-8-2 WCHA). UAA is now 5-18-3 overall (3-16-3 WCHA).

The Seawolves twice held the lead in the game. After a scoreless first period, UAA’s Petr Chytka scored at 9:36 of the second on assists from Dallas Steward and Mike Scott.

Wisconsin’s Alex Brooks evened things at 1-1 on a power play goal with just 39 seconds left in the frame.

UAA went up 2-1 at 4:03 of the third on a goal by Scott, assisted by Steve Cygan and Matt Shasby.

But the Badgers again countered via the power play, tying things at 2-2 on Matt Murray’s man-advantage goal at 17:07 of the third. That set up Hussey’s game-winner in overtime.

In a tight-checking game, the Seawolves owned a 22-18 shots on goal advantage. Wisconsin goaltender Graham Melanson stopped 20 shots while UAA’s Chris King was credited with 15 saves.

Wisconsin, which broke a three-game winless streak against UAA, went 2-for-6 on the power play while the Seawolves were 0-for-3. Meanwhile, UAA’s winless streak extended to a team-record 16 games.
