The Vermont Catamounts lived to fight another day with a 4-3 overtime win over UMass in game-two of their opening round series in the Hockey East Tournament on Friday night in Amherst.
The Catamounts jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Rob Darrar at 11:04 of the first and Derek Lodermeier at 5:33 of the second. The Minutemen responded with three straight goals by Austin Plevy, Mitchell Chaffee, and Austin Albrecht to take a 3-2 lead just 29 seconds into the third period.
At 8:05 of the third, Rob Darrar’s second of the game tied things up at three. Regulation wasn’t enough to decide things so the game went to sudden-death overtime. Just 12 seconds into the extra period, Cory Thomas shot home the game-winner to give Vermont the 4-3 win and evened up the series at a game apiece.
