Hunter Racine scored the game winning goal midway through the second period, and goalie Colton Point took care of the rest to help Colgate to a 3-1 win over Rensselaer Friday night in Game 1 of the first round of the ECAC Hockey playoffs.
Point finished with 26 saves for the sixth-seeded Raiders, while Racine’s game winner came 10:48 into the second period. Trevor Cosgrove’s power-play goal gave Colgate a 1-0 lead at 6:14 in the first, but eleventh-seeded RPI tied the game on Donovan’s Ott goal with 19 seconds left in the opening period.
Mike Panowyk added an empty-net goal for Colgate, who will go for the series sweep Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Class of 1965 arena.
