Merrimack’s Jace Hennig tied the game with 1:30 remaining in regulation and Sami Tavernier netted the game winner just 13 seconds into the extra frame as the Warriors earned a Hockey East road win, 3-2, over Connecticut.
Merrimack never led in the game, falling behind at the 8:52 mark of the second period when Connecticut’s Benjaman Freeman tallied on the power play.
Marc Biega knotted the game early in the third only to watch UConn’s Maxim Letunov put the Huskies ahead just 30 seconds later.
That, though, only set up the heroics for the Warriors, who are now 4-1-1 in their last six games.
