Connecticut was defeated by MAAC rival American International, 3-1, on Friday evening. The Huskies’ record drops to 4-5-2 overall, 4-2-1 in MAAC play, while AIC improves to 4-7-1 overall, 4-4-1 in conference action.
AIC’s Bryan Bassler opened the scoring at the 4:05 mark of the first period on a breakaway with assists from Patrick Tabb and Yellow Jacket goalie Chance Thede. Guillaume Caron tallied a power-play goal for AIC’s second goal of the night midway through the second period.
In the third, UConn’s Mike Boylan found the puck in front of the net and placed it past Thede to put the Huskies on the board at the 4:45 mark during a power-play opportunity. Ciro Longobardi and Ron D’Angelo assisted on the tally.
Andy Luhovy gave the Yellow Jackets the insurance goal for the win with under a minute remaining in the stanza.
UConn’s Artie Imbriano made 16 saves in net, while Thede stopped 28 UConn shots on goal. Connecticut outshot AIC, 29-16, in the losing effort.
