Minnesota posted a 2-0 victory over St. Cloud State on Friday, in the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
Minnesota’s Troy Riddle scored the game winner at 9:57 of the second period with an assist from Jeff Taffe.
The Gophers added an insurance goal at 0:38 of the third when John Pohl scored on an assist from Jordan Leopold and Erik Westrum.
The loss drops SCSU’s record to 6-2-1, 3-2-0 WCHA, while Minnesota improves to 8-1-2, 6-1-2 WCHA. Both goaltenders played outstanding games with Adam Hauser gaining the shutout and 25 saves. SCSU’s Scott Meyer had 27 saves in the game as UM outshot SCSU 29-25.
The two teams will square off again on Saturday, at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis.
