Ohio State defeated Bemidji State, 5-2, Saturday night at John S. Glas Fieldhouse to earn a split in the teams’ WCHA series.
The Buckeyes stand at 3-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the WCHA, and the Beavers are 2-7-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the WCHA.
Emma Laaksonen had a two-goal game and Shana Frost picked up two goals and an assist. Frost currently leads the team in scoring with four goals and four assists for eight points.
Corinne Rosen picked up three assists and Leah Peyer scored her second goal of the series and added an assist.
Frost scored the first goal of the game at 18:12 in the first period. Jeanne Chapple and Peyer set up the shot from behind the Beaver net and Frost fired the puck past BSU goalie Bre Dedrickson. Chapple’s assist was her second on the
weekend.
Just 17 seconds into the second period, Laaksonen increased the Buckeyes’ lead to two with a power-play goal. Assists went to Rosen and Frost. Amber Fryklund put the Beavers on the board at 3:01 in the second period with a power-play goal from Amy Shepler and Caesare Stimson. Peyer put the Buckeyes ahead, 3-1, at 13:31 with an unassisted goal on a breakaway.
BSU responded less than a minute later. Guylaine Hache scored at 14:10 from Alicia Kinsman and Fryklund.
Frost added her second goal of the game and the Buckeyes’ second on the power play at 13:24 in the third period. Laaksonen and Rosen earned assists.
Laaksonen struck again at 16:48 with her second power-play goal of the night from Rosen.
For the second-consecutive game, the Buckeyes held the Beavers to single-digit shots in every period, outshooting BSU, 42-14.
OSU converted 3-of-9 power-play opportunities and BSU went 1-for-3.
April Stojak recorded 12 saves for the win. BSU’s Bre Dedrickson stopped 37 Buckeye shots.
