For the second straight game host Marian College and nationally-ranked Wisconsin-River Falls had to go to overtime to decide the outcome.
Unlike the first night, when then the game ended in a tie, the visiting Falcons were able to punch home the winner at 3:47 in the overtime.
Shane Fukushima ended a scramble in front by putting a shot over Sabre goalie Terry Dunbar to ice the game for the Falcons. He was assisted by Jeff Bernard.
Marian’s Dunbar was impressive for the second straight game as he stopped 42 shots. Landon Luther was the winning goaltender and needed only 16 saves.
River Falls got on the board in the first period on a power-play goal by Bernard, but Marian answered on its own power play when Dan Odegard’s shot deflected in just 56 seconds into the second period.
Freshman Tommy Kotsopoulos gave Marian the lead at 8:14 of the third on a shorthanded breakaway, but for the second straight game River Falls scored a late goal when Jamie Steinert tallied at the 17:21 mark to send it into the extra period.
