St. Cloud State rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat Miami in overtime. Mikey Eyssimont was the hero for the Huskies. He and Patrick Newell raced in with two Miami defenders in hot pursuit. Newell carried the puck up the left side and passed through the slot to Eyssimont near the far post, and Eyssimont redirected it high glove side past Miami goalie Ryan Larkin at 8:46 of the OT.

Miami took the first lead of the game when Grant Hutton, Saturday’s overtime hero, got the puck in the right faceoff circle off a lively bounce off the corner boards and one-timed a blast past Dávid Hrenák at 9:31 of the first. Miami then took a two-goal lead on a power play when Casey Gilling picked up a rebound of Scott Dornbrock’s shot from the point and beat Hrenák five-hole at 16:23.

St. Cloud needed to hit the reset button in the second, and the Huskies did thanks to their captain, Jimmy Schuldt, who scored his 10th goal of the year on an early power play with a one-timer from the blue line that beat Larkin just inside the right post at 1:26.

However, before the Huskies could even gain momentum from that, a defensive lapse on the ensuing faceoff let Karch Bachman behind the defense, and he got the puck and cut hard to his right outside the crease, beating Hrenák easily at 1:31.

Late in the period, Eyssimont pulled St. Cloud back within one, cutting toward the slot from the right corner and beating Larkin top corner glove side with a perfect shot at 18:13.

With time ticking down in the third, Judd Petersen tied it for the Huskies when he deflected Jon Lizotte’s shot past Larkin at 14:08 of the third. Petersen stationed himself right in front of the crease and fought off a RedHawks defender while getting the deflection.

The Huskies advanced to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff next weekend in St. Paul, Minn., where they will face North Dakota on Friday at the Xcel Energy Center.
