ERIE, Pa. — Jonathan Charbonneau scored a hat trick to lead the top-seeded Lakers to an opening game win over Sacred Heart.
Charbonneau opened the scoring at 9:49 of the first period before scoring early and late in the second period. His third goal gave Mercyhurst a 3-1 lead at the end of two periods.
Michael Verboom then gave Mercyhurst a 4-1 lead early in the second to clinch the victory. Mark Johnstone and Zach Tseko scored the goal for Sacred Heart.
