Nogard’s two points lead Omaha in sweep of Union

Omaha pumped in four goals during a dominant second-period performance to go ahead for good in a 5-3 victory against 19th-ranked Union at Baxter Arena in Omaha.

The four-goal spurt was led by Luke Nogard, who assisted the go-ahead goal by Tristan Keck 58 seconds after Fredrik Olofsson knotted the nonconference game at 1-1 with 11:09 left in the second period.

Nogard made it 3-1 with 5:44 remaining, and Riley Alferd cored the eventual game-winner to clinch the sweep with a goal with 2:12 left.

Union had led 1-0 after a power-play score by Ryan Walker with about five seconds left in the first.

The Dutchmen cut the Omaha lead to 4-2 late in the third on a power-play goal by Cole Maier before UNO answered with David Pope’s 11th goal of the season with 1:56 remaining. Walker scored his second of the night with 52 seconds left for the final margin.

Omaha goalie Kris Oldham made 18 of his 31 saves during the second period to help secure the nonconference sweep.
