BURLINGTON, Vt. — Saints senior Mike Marnell picked quite the time to end his scoring drought.
Marnell provided the game-winning goal with 7:33 remaining, marking his first tally since St. Lawrence’s overtime loss to Providence College on Oct. 20.
St. Lawrence (2-14-1) plays UMass Lowell today as part of the Catamount Cup.
Vermont (4-11-3) scored the game’s first two goals before St. Lawrence answered with two of its own to knot the game at 2-2.
Saints junior Jacob Pritchard scored the lone goal of the second period with 1:08 left before the second intermission to tie the game at 2-2. Teammate Philip Alftberg’s power-play goal cut Vermont’s lead to 2-1 with 4:24 remaining in the first period.
Catamounts freshman Alex Esposito opened the game’s scoring 8:24 into the first period. Teammate Jarrid Privitera added a goal of his own with 5:30 left in the opening frame to double Vermont’s lead.
Daniel Mannella made 36 saves for St. Lawrence. Stefanos Lekkas made 20 stops for the Catamounts.
