ECAC Roundup: No. 15 Clarkson defeats Western Michigan, 4-2

Ohio State 1, Rensselaer 1

Rensselaer traveled to Ohio State and left Columbus, Ohio with a 1-1 tie. The game’s only goals came in the second period with Ohio State grabbing the lead 2:34 into the middle period. Jared Wilson pulled Rensselaer even at 9:35 with his first goal of the season. Rensselaer goalie Chase Perry made 56 saves against Ohio State.

No. 18 Cornell 7, Guelph 1

Matt Nuttle scored twice along with five other Cornell players as they defeated Guelph in a non-conference game. Nuttle opened up the scoring at 15:45 with a power play goal. Tristan Mullin scored less than two minutes later and Alex Green added a third goal at 19:44 on the power play. Trevor Morbeck scored the only goal for Guelph. Nuttle, Cam Donaldson, Noah Bauld, and Trent Shore scored in the third period.

Princeton 6, Western Ontario 4

Princeton came away with the home win on Saturday over Western Ontario thanks to third period goals by Liam Grande and Alex Richie. Grande scored the go-ahead goal at 14:55 and Riche helped seal the win with an insurance goal less than a minute later. Western Ontario had jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first period before Princeton battled back and the two sides were neck and neck until late in the third period. Goalies Austin Shaw, Ryan Ferland and Ben Halford all made appearances in net for Princeton.

No. 20 New Hampshire 5, Colgate 3

A two-goal deficit after the first period was too much for Colgate to overcome as they fell 5-3 Saturday night. Brendan van Riemsdyk scores the first goal of the night for New Hampshire at 5:48 of the first. Michael McNicholas gave them a 2-0 lead at 18:08. Mike Panowyk scored a power-play goal for Colgate to open the second period, but New Hampshire answered back 58 seconds later. Adam Dauda and Nick Austin scored for Colgate, and Zac Hamilton made 35 saves in net in the loss.

No 8. North Dakota 6, St. Lawrence 1

St. Lawrence suffered their second consecutive loss to North Dakota, falling 6-1 in Grand Forks. North Dakota scored three goals in the opening period and added a fourth in the second period. St. Lawrence finally ended the shutout when Jacob Pritchard scored at 3:44 of the period. North Dakota added two more goals in the final 10 minutes.

No. 15 Clarkson 4, Western Michigan 2

Sheldon Rempal scored twice for Clarkson as they defeated Western Michigan 4-2. Clarkson opened the scoring 2:51 into the game off a goal by Rempal. After Dawson DiPietro scored early in the second period to tie the game, Rempal scored his second goal of the game at 7:46. Terrance Amorosa scored later in the period to give Clarkson a 3-1 lead and Nico Strum put Clarkson up 4-2 with two seconds left in the game.  Jake Kielly made 35 saves in the win.
