Izmirlian’s third-period goal pushes Yale past Princeton

TRENTON, N.J. — Chris Izmirlian broke a tie with 3:04 remaining as No. 13 Yale opened its season with a 3-1 victory over Princeton at the Capital City Classic.

John Hayden added an empty-net goal for the Bulldogs, who will play Massachusetts in Saturday’s championship game.

Mike Doherty also scored and Alex Lyon stopped 28 shots for Yale.

Colton Phinney made 41 saves and Eric Robinson scored a first-period goal for the Tigers (0-1), who will face Maine on Saturday.
