BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Chad McDonald scored twice, the second a short-handed goal late in the second period, and No. 9 Ferris State held off No. 8 Michigan 4-3 on Saturday, the opening night of the 2014-15 season.
McDonald put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0 in the first period, then gave Ferris State a 4-1 lead with 1:04 left in the second.
Travis Lynch and Evan Allen scored third-period goals for Michigan, which outshot Ferris State 37-31.
CJ Motte made 34 saves for the Bulldogs, while Zach Nagelvoort stopped 27 shots for the Wolverines.
