ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Institute of Technology had a nice start to Friday afternoon’s game with a successfully-executed power play in the first period, but Robert Morris stole the Tigers’ momentum en route to a 2-1 win.

RIT captain Lindsay Grigg scored the first goal of the game on assists by Kolbee McCrea and Kourtney Kunichika on the man-advantage.

Following the Tigers’ only goal, the Colonials finished the game on a 2-0 run. Even though Robert Morris was 0-for-5 (13 shots) on the power play, the Colonials found a way to get past the Tigers’ stud goaltender Ali Binnington (35 saves).

Robert Morris’ two goals were scored by Anneline Lauziere and Rebecca Vint.

Vint, has who 113 career points (59 goals, 54 assists), is only two more goals away from breaking her own single-season goals record of 22.

Both teams had a total of seven penalties for 14 minutes each and the Tigers’ penalty kill was quite exceptional tonight, due to the fact the Colonials took 13 shots during their power-play opportunities, but did not score. These 13 shots were also a huge contribution to why Robert Morris outshot the Tigers 37-23.

However, the faceoffs were relatively even on Friday with the Tigers slightly edging the Colonials 34-30.

Regardless of these statistics, RMU is currently ranked No. 9 in the USCHO.com Division I Women’s Poll. Robert Morris has been included in the poll for 10 straight weeks.

On the other side, the Tigers are now riding a three-game losing streak after tonight’s loss, but entered tonight’s game in third place in the CHA.

“We have to be more consistent in our play,” said RIT coach Scott McDonald. “Every line has to be sharp tomorrow, on every shift. Tomorrow and next weekend’s contests are must-win games, there is no getting around that. We would like to close this arena out on a positive note.”

“What we’re trying to do is just coach our players to be reactive,” Robert Morris coach Paul Colontino said. “When they see seams to the net, take them. When they see opportunities to shoot, shoot. We did a good job of creating odd-man options, but we just got to look and see if there is a better way to capitalize.”
