PRINCETON, N.J. — Tyler Maugeri and Mike Ambrosia tallied a goal each to lead Princeton to a 2-1 victory over Rensselaer on Friday night.
Rensselaer netted the first goal of the game at 14:49, as Luke Curadi battled in the crease and pushed the puck over the line behind goaltender Colten Phinney to give the Engineers a 1-0 lead. But the Tigers answered back just 1:06 later on the power play, as Maugeri rifled a shot past Scott Diebold inside the left post.
After a scoreless second period, the eventual game winner came just 1:04 into the third, as Ambrosia tallied his fourth goal of the season.
Rensselaer thought it had the equalizer with 4:24 left in the game, but after review, the no-goal call on the ice was confirmed.
Phinney finished with 33 saves to earn his second victory of the season for the Tigers. Scott Diebold made 25 saves for the Engineers.
