PRINCETON, N.J. — Denna Laing scored twice, and Olivia Mucha tallied a goal and an assist to lead Princeton to a 4-1 victory over Rensselaer Friday night.
Already short-handed at 1:15, an aggressive penalty kill by Laing and Mucha led to a short-handed tally just two minutes into the game. Laing capitalized on a quick feed from Mucha right in front, tapping the puck over goaltender Kelly O’Brien stick side.
Mari Mankey answered back unassisted for the Engineers at 12:52, as Mariana Walsh created traffic in front of goaltender Ashley Holt, allowing the puck to roll over the goal line.
With 2:50 remaining in the period, the Tigers tallied again as Jamie McDonell poked home a rebound from an Ali Pankowski shot. McDonell’s goal was one of three that the officials went to the booth to review, and the eventual game winner was allowed to stand, giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead after one period.
Laing added an unassisted insurance goal midway through the third, and Mucha put the game out of reach at 18:19, as goaltender Kelly O’Brien had gone to the bench for an extra attacker.
Ashley Holt improved to 2-0-0 for the Tigers, stopping 15 of 16 shots. Kelly O’Brien made 26 saves for the Engineers.
