McKay, Miami pull ahead of Western Michigan with shutout

Ryan McKay stopped 29 shots as No. 3 Miami answered a Western Michigan shutout with one of its own, 4-0 on Saturday.

Four players scored for the RedHawks, who earned a series split after a 2-0 loss on Friday and pulled back ahead of the sixth-ranked Broncos in the CCHA standings.

McKay earned his third shutout of the season, getting support from goals by Riley Barber, Curtis McKenzie, Max Cook and Marc Hagel.

Miami (18-7-5, 13-5-4-4 CCHA) leads Western Michigan (18-7-5, 14-5-3-1) by one point with six games left in the regular season.

Frank Slubowski allowed three goals on 21 shots before being replaced by Lukas Hafner at the start of the third period. Hafner stopped five of the six shots he faced.
