Nick Bailen scored on a five-on-three power play 2:56 into overtime, lifting No. 18 Rensselaer to a 4-3 victory over 12th-ranked Union on Saturday.
Bailen added two assists in regulation for the Engineers (5-3-3, 2-2 ECAC Hockey), who split the home-and-home series with the Dutchmen (7-2-3, 2-1-1). Union won Friday’s game 2-1.
Marty O’Grady’s power-play, extra-attacker goal for Rensselaer with one second remaining forced overtime.
Union took a 2-0 lead on second-period goals by Justin Pallos and Rensselaer’s Matt Hatch, but Patrick Cullen and Joel Malchuk scored power-play and short-handed goals, respectively, in the third to knot the score.
The Dutchmen went ahead again behind a Josh Jooris power-play goal with just over six minutes remaining.
