The Dartmouth men’s hockey team (14-11-2, 12-6-2 ECACHL) earned its second shutout of the season defeating Colgate (16-10-6, 12-6-2 ECACHL) 3-0 Saturday at Starr Rink. Big Green netminder Mike Devine earned his first shutout with the win as he made 21 saves on the night.
Dartmouth is now in tie for second place with Colgate as both teams have 26 points. Cornell still holds the top spot with 27, while St. Lawrence is fourth with 23 points and Harvard is right behind with 21.
Next weekend Clarkson will travel to Dartmouth on Friday with St. Lawrence coming to Thompson Arena on Saturday.
The Big Green struck first 11:32 into the first 20 minutes. Tanner Glass won the battle in the corner, passing to Jarrett Sampson behind the net. Sampson worked the puck around the left side of the cage shooting across the net to Eric Przepiorka, who shot low on netminder Mark Dekanich with Nick Johnson there to poke it in.
Dartmouth went up 2-0 as both teams were skating with four with 11:49 gone in the second. Garret Overlock received the puck in the Colgate end, passing across to Rob Pritchard. Pritchard cycled around behind the net with Dekanich moving to the far side of the cage. J.T. Wyman was there to shoot into the empty slot. Through the first two periods Dartmouth was outshooting the Raiders 20-12.
The Big Green went up by three goals early in the final stanza. Freshman Ryan Bellows passed behind the net to classmate Kevin Swallow, who shot around the net as the puck went off a Colgate defender’s skate and into the back of the net. Dartmouth finished the game outshooting the Raiders 30-21.
