Dartmouth And Brown Battle To 2-2 Tie

Dartmouth (11-10-2, 9-5-2 ECACHL) had to play from behind for the second night in a row, tying Brown (3-14-6, 2-10-4), 2-2. The Big Green earned three points on the weekend and are now in third place in the ECAC Hockey League with 20 points.

Brown lit the lamp first off of a power-play strike with 2:30 left in the opening stanza. Antonin Roux won the faceoff and passed to Cory Caouette who fired through the crowd in front of the net to put the Bears up, 1-0.

The Big Green tied things up with 34 seconds remaining in the second period. Jarrett Sampson took a shot with Dartmouth on the power play for the seventh time of the game, but it was saved by Brown netminder Mark Sibbald. Nick Johnson scooped the puck up from the right circle and fired top-shelf for the tying goal.

The Big Green had turned things around in the middle stanza. After being outshot 14-7 in the first period, Dartmouth came back to outshoot the Bears 14-8 in the second.

Brown pulled ahead as a screen in front of the net set up Chris Poli to net the go-ahead goal with 11:56 left in the game. David Jones proved the Big Green hero, netting the tying strike with less than a minute to go in the contest. Tanner Glass passed from behind the net to J.T. Wyman, who fired towards the net. Jones got his stick down for the tip-in and the game-tying goal.

Dartmouth appeared to score the game-winner with less than a minute to go in the extra stanza. Three straight shots on net by Sampson, Sean Offers and Johnson kept the puck in the Brown end. With pressure mounting, Johnson got the puck on the Bears’ blueline and fired. The puck scooted over the line and around Sibbald before the goalie was able to push the puck out of the net.

Sibbald finished the game with 34 saves while Dartmouth netminder Mike Devine had 35. The tie marked the Bears’ sixth of the season and its 10th overtime game while it was just the third extra-session affair for the Big Green.
