Robert Morris University gave up two power-play goals and four third-period goals in an 8-1 loss at Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday night. Bruce Mulherin finished with three goals and two assists as he led the Chargers (10-7-1, 6-2-0 CHA) to a sweep of the Colonials (5-14-1, 2-6-0) following a 3-1 victory on Saturday night.
Mulherin scored a goal in each period as eight different Chargers registered multi-point games on the night. Mulherin and Matt Sweavey each had first-period goals. Jeremy Schreiber added a power-play goal in the second along with the second of the night for Mulherin. Steve Canter, Kevin Galerno, Grant Selinger and Mulherin all registered third-period tallies.
Colonials sophomore forward Brett Hopfe scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season at 15:20 of the third period on a five-on-three power-play. Sophomore Logan Bittle and classmate Jake Sparks were credited with the assists.
Sophomore goaltender Christian Boucher took the loss to fall to 5-13-1 on the year after allowing four goals while making 26 saves in two periods of work. Scott Munroe earned the win for Alabama-Huntsville as he made 41 saves.
The Chargers held a 45-42 advantage in shots on goal and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Robert Morris was 1-for-8 with the man advantage.
The Colonials continued to struggle offensively both at even strength and on the power play. The team has just five goals in its last eight games and eight goals in its last 10, and has converted on three of its last 59 power plays after hitting on 31.6 percent over the first eight games of the season. Two of its three power play goals over the current streak have come on five-on-three situations.
