Quinnipiac kept Robert Morris University winless at home by shutting out the Colonials 2-0 Friday night. Quinnipiac, now 0-2 at the RMU Island Sports Center and 2-3-0 on the year, will have another chance Saturday, October 29, as they again take on the Bobcats at 7:35 p.m.
Quinnipiac came into the game as the third-highest scoring team in the nation and Robert Morris the fourth, but combined to score just two goals Friday night. The Colonials, who touted the top power-play in the nation, went scoreless in six opportunities while the Bobcats capitalized on one-of-eight chances.
Jamie Bates gave Quinnipiac the lead at 11:17 of the third period with a power-play goal. He took a pass in the slot from Ben Nelson and found a hole in sophomore goalie Christian Boucher. Brian Leitch also recorded an assist.
The Bobcats doubled the lead just 47 seconds into the second period. David Marshall was credited with the goal when he threw the puck across the slot and it was tipped in by a Robert Morris defender.
Neither team could find their rhythm in the third period as they combined for 17 penalties and 34 penalty minutes in the final 20 minutes. For the game, 27 penalties in total were whistled.
Boucher finished with 35 saves on the night as Quinnipiac held a 37-23 advantage in shots. Bud Fisher earned the shutout win with 23 saves.
