Brown Comes Back To Tie RPI

Brown (4-4-2, 3-3-2) came back from a 3-0 deficit and scored two goals in the final 20:00 to earn a 3-3 overtime tie with RPI (7-7-2, 2-4-1) in an ECACHL contest Friday evening at Meehan Auditorium.

The two teams played a fast-paced first period of hockey, but the Engineers dominated the 20:00, spending much of the period in the Brown zone, though generating few quality shots. However, RPI took the first lead of the game, on the power-play, when Jake Luthi fired the puck past freshman Adam D’Alba at 17:36.

RPI increased its lead to 3-0 with back-to-back goals scored at 4:46 and 9:51 of the second period. Oren Eizenman added the Engineers second power-play goal and Chris Hussey scored five-on-five just 11 seconds after RPI had successfully killed a Brown power play.

The Bears finally got on the board with a power-play goal of their own less than three minutes later when Paul Baier beat Andrew Martin over his left shoulder.

The third period was all Brown, starting with a power-play goal from Gerry Burke at 8:39 of the period. His low-angle shot from the left face-off circle beat Martin to his glove-side and brought the Bears to within one.

Less than five minutes later, at 13:09, Les Haggett scored the equalizer off a feed from Brian Ihnacak. Chris Swon made a great play along the boards and passed Ihnacak the puck in the corner. Ihnacak sent the puck to Haggett in the slot, and he chipped it in for his fourth goal of the year.

Despite several chances for both teams in the final minutes, neither team could tally the go-ahead goal, and the game headed into overtime, which also remained scoreless for the final 3-3.
